Fred Walker's name is engraved in this section on the Thiepval Memorial, commemorating the 72,085 men who died in the Somme area, up until March 20, 1918, the eve of the German push back across the battlefield.

The Memorial, built between 1928-1932, is 150ft high.
It is a massive stepped arrangement of intersecting arches that increase in height and proportionate width, culminating in an 80ft high central arch.
The memorial is clad mainly in brick, but its 16 piers are faced with portland stone, on which the names of the dead are engraved.
The Thiepval Memorial is found on the D73, off the main Bapaume to Albert Road (D929).
